Continuous Scan Verifiers

The Axicon S range verifiers have a unique continuous scan feature. When first installed this feature is automatically activated on start-up (but can be de-activated if required) and allows the user to get an assessment of the barcode quality in a fraction of the time that it would take with other linear verifiers. The verifier should be placed either just above or just below the barcode and the trigger pressed. With the trigger still pressed, move the verifier down the height of the barcode. The verifier will scan at the rate of 100 verifications a second until it reaches the bottom of the barcode (or gets to the maximum number of scans). The verifier will automatically calculate an average of the results of all of the scans to provide an overall quality grade based upon an assessment across the scanned bar height. When verifying barcodes on awkward shaped packaging you may find it easier to switch off the Continuous scan mode. This feature can be activated or de-activated as required with a toggle switch on the Command window.

Axicon 2D/Linear Barcode Verifiers

Axicon offers the 15000 series and the 12000 series of two-dimensional verifiers intended for the verifying of Data Matrix, QR Code, GS1 DataMatrix, GS1 QR Code, GS1 DataBar, PDF and micro-PDF codes. Some models can also verify EAN/UPC, GS1-128 and ITF-14 codes, depending on their size.

Axicon 15000

axicon.15000.verifierThe Axicon 15000 has been designed to read both two-dimensional and linear barcodes up to a maximum size of 51 mm x 31 mm.  The system uses a special array of LEDs and a CCD-based sensor to capture each barcode image before it is analysed.  It is able to verify multiple barcodes in the same field of view, whether they are 2D or linear codes, and the user sees the results for each barcode by selecting the relevant barcode on the screen.

QR Code, GS1 QR Code, Data Matrix and GS1 DataMatrix symbols can all be verified, as can any EAN/UPC, ITF-14, GS1-128, Code 128, or Code 39 symbol with a maximum width of 51 mm.

The Axicon 15000 is powered solely from the USB2 port of a computer, so it is portable when used with a laptop computer.

Features & Benefits

ISO/IEC-compliant verification of both linear and 2D barcodes.  Each linear symbol is analysed automatically using ten scans through the barcode height, as specified by ISO/IEC 15426-1.  Each barcode can be verified at any orientation so using the Axicon 15000 requires no special expertise.

The software enables symbology auto-discrimination, automatic variable aperture, scan saving and loading, and display of x-dimension and magnification.  The data content of each symbol can also be analysed using optional plugins for the software, which is available in five languages.

Traceability features include the ability to save raw data files which can also be used for remote diagnostic support.  The software is available free of charge, and continually updated to ensure it meets the latest requirements of the relevant ISO/IEC standards, and other applications.

Connectivity

USB2

System Requirements

PC running any currently supported version of Microsoft Windows.

The verifier is supplied as the verifier read-head, its data cable, a CD with the Axicon verifier software (in several languages), an operating manual, a calibration card and compliance certificates in a protective carry case.

UPC (GTIN-12)

There are a variety of different types of barcodes. However, the UPC (Universal Product Number) symbol is the most recognized barcode in the United States, since it appears on almost every retail product. The UPC symbol is the barcode representation of the GTIN-12 which consists of twelve numeric characters that uniquely identify a company’s individual product. The GTIN-12 number is part of the family of GS1 global data structures that employ 14 digits and can be encoded into various types of data carriers.

ISBN/Books

A requirement for selling a book through booksellers, wholesalers, and distributors is the assignment of unique ISBN numbers for each title and for each book to be marked with a Bookland EAN barcode.

The Bookland symbol allows for encodation of ISBNs (the numbers publishers use to identify their products). Since an ISBN is unique to one particular title (or product), the corresponding Bookland EAN symbol is a title-specific marking which is unique for that title. For example, if a title is available in hard cover, soft cover and as an e-book, three unique ISBN Bookland EAN bar codes are required.

Medical/UDI

The FDA UDI Mandate is part of a comprehensive healthcare traceability initiative to improve patient safety.  The Unique Device Identifier (UDI) requirement is rooted in holding each member of the supply chain responsible for ensuring each medical device is marked with a UDI barcode with data maintained on the FDA’s GUDID universal database.

Assets/Inventory

The first step in designing an asset tracking system is to determine whether you are working with assets or inventory.  Assets are any items a company uses internally such as tools, equipment, furniture etc.  Inventory are items which are sold, distributed or used by a company.  The distinction between Assets and Inventory is essential in regards to how the items will be marked, scanned and stored.
